Temporary source processing
A dashboard upload is copied to temporary processing storage so the worker can extract audio, transcribe it, generate translations, and support caption review. Extracted audio is deleted after the worker attempt.
After successful processing, a browser-compatible temporary preview remains available only for caption calibration. Genie creates a temporary H.264/AAC review proxy when the uploaded source cannot be played reliably in the browser, then deletes the incompatible original. Saving progress stores caption edits and the playback position so the owner can continue later. Reviewers on verified Pro, Max, and Enterprise paid plans may optionally burn one or two selected caption languages into a video locally when their browser supports it; Developer and admin-trial accounts retain caption-only review. The exported MP4 or WebM is written directly to the reviewer's device and is never uploaded to or retained by Genie. Completing the review publishes the approved WebVTT tracks and removes the temporary preview immediately. Draft saves and local exports never extend the 24-hour temporary-media safety cap.
The review stream is private, session-authenticated, and not a hosted-video URL. After review, Genie retains the caption files and video metadata—not the source video. The React SDK still requires your existing CDN or video-platform URL.
What Genie retains
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Video metadata | Filename, MIME type, duration, size, status, project ownership, and processing timestamps. |
| Caption tracks | Generated WebVTT content, language, cue count, and version. |
| Job and usage metadata | Status, selected languages, progress, errors, and billable duration. |
| Security metadata | Aggregated risk signals are retained for 30 days. Expired or revoked bans and dismissed findings are retained for 180 days; active bans and staff audit records remain available while needed to protect and operate the service. |
| Support tickets | Your name, email, category, subject, message, staff replies, delivery state, and optional job or request ID. Closed tickets are deleted after two years. |
What Genie does not retain
- The source video after dashboard caption review is completed or expires, or after anonymous processing finishes.
- Browser-generated caption-burned video exports.
- Extracted audio after each worker attempt.
- Intermediate transcript-segment or translated-segment database records.
- A second copy of caption cues alongside the canonical WebVTT track.
Anonymous demo
The source video follows the immediate terminal-state deletion rule. Anonymous video metadata, job records, and generated VTT tracks expire after 24 hours.
Product analytics
Genie uses PostHog as a product-analytics and feature-flag subprocessor. Analytics events are sent from Genie's server using opaque user, workspace, and project identifiers. Session replay, browser autocapture, analytics cookies, referrer and URL capture, and GeoIP enrichment are disabled.
Genie does not send PostHog raw IP addresses, names, email addresses, filenames, media URLs or storage paths, captions, transcripts, provider error text, credentials, or Clerk profile fields. PostHog data is not authoritative for billing, security enforcement, or operational records.
Customer support
The support form is text-only. Do not send source video, caption contents, passwords, API keys, access tokens, card details, provider secrets, or other sensitive information. Requests are stored in Genie's support queue and staff replies are delivered through the configured email provider.
